MDCR developed the Civil Rights Public Portal to provide information to individuals about our services and enhance communication with individuals utilizing MDCR services through the portal.
What does MDCR do?
We Enforce Civil Rights Laws. MDCR’s primary purpose is to investigate complaints of discrimination in employment, education, housing, public accommodation, law enforcement and public service. The alleged discrimination must have taken place in the last 180 days and must be based on religion, race (including hair texture or protective styles), color, national origin, arrest record, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, height, weight, marital status, familial status, or disability.
We Prevent Discrimination. MDCR is committed to preventing discrimination and working to bridge gaps in understanding and trust. We engage with community and faith-based organizations, advocates and law enforcement agencies to address civil rights issues and build partnerships to promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws. MDCR offers training on a range of topics including cultural competency, disability, sexual harassment, housing discrimination, hate crimes and civil rights law. We also partner with communities to examine differential access and the role this plays in Michigan’s economic and social environment.
We Serve Communities. MDCR works to support development, innovation, and access and serve the needs of Michigan residents.
What MDCR services are available through the Portal?
MDCR Services available through the Public Portal include requesting training on behalf of your organization or company, submitting a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request or filing a complaint of discrimination.
Through this portal, individuals can track the progress of their cases, respond to MDCR when an action is required, maintain information on their personal contact information, and view/submit documents associated with their case.
